You bought a new SSD and look to see if its effects match its description. You can use the CrystalDiskMark tool for this purpose. When you are on the official software download page, be careful not to download the wrong software, there are several software with similar names.
After downloading and installing the software, and opening it , click on the third drop-down menu with the content "C: 43% (411 / 953GiB)", press and select the device that wants to test - hard disk, SSD or flash drive. Press the "All" button to start the test. It is important for an accurate result to close all other programs so as not to contaminate the performance results. After it completes you will get a similar window with results. Depending in which port on your pc you plugged in your device, performance can vary greatly. For example, if you put an SSD in the port that is furthest from the CPU, you can get lower performance. Another example is if you are testing a USB memory and instead of a USB 3.2 port, you plugged in a USB 2.0 port.
The column on the left under "All" describes what test was performed:
- SEQ1M Q8T1 - sequentially reads and writes data with a size of 1MB with a total of 8 tasks on 1 thread of the processor
SEQ1M Q1T1 - sequentially reads and writes data with a size of 1MB with 1 task on 1 thread of the processor
RND4K Q32T16 - randomly read and write 4KB data with 8 tasks in a queue on 16 threads of the CPU
RND4K Q1T1 - randomly read and write 4KB of data with 1 task on 1 processor thread
Depending on what you use your computer for, the results of the performance test will be of different value to you. For example, if you copy or read very small files, the last 2 lines (RND4K) will give you an idea of the performance. But if you work with large files, the first 2 lines (SEQ1M) are the results that interest you.
If your operating system still does not boot from SSD, it is recommended that you replace the old hard disk drive with an SSD. You will immediately feel how everything works faster.
The software also has interface in multiple languages, you can download it here:
